Rachmieli

Rachmieli
It's been a while since my last post. I'll do my best to get back to regular weekly posts. Anyway, this is an illustration I did for a short story by my friend Maayan Sagi. You can see the published page here.

Zombie Yoda

Zombie Yoda
This is a sketch of a Yoda toy we got at McDonald's. He turned out looking like a zombie. I think it makes him a much more badass jedi.

Azpiri fan-art

Azpiri fan-art
This is a sketch of Alfonso Azpiri's character taken from his comics in Heavy Metal magazine. Azpiri has a unique style that is very easy to recognize with his round, flowing lines and the use of water colors.
Here's the full page of sketches from my recent posts.

Iron fan-art

Iron fan-art
This is a sketch of Angel, the main character of a comics made by Iron (published in Heavy Metal magazine). I could'nt find any information about him so if anyone knows something about who this guy is, i'd be glad to know. All I can say is that he is a fenomenal artist. Most of his work features alot of violence and they give a feeling like that of watching an action film. Everything is very dynamic and he has a great sense of space and timing. He also has a very distinct style. Brilliant work.

Frezzato fan-art

Frezzato fan-art
During my early twenties I was subscribed to Heavy Metal magazine for a few years. For those of you who don't know, it's an adults oriented comics magazine (alot of the comics involes violence and/or nudity). In every issue I didn't like at least half of the comics. Either the story was stupid or I didn't like the drawing style. But it was those few other great comics that made every issue worth it. At some point I sat down with a pencil and copied some of the characters of some of my favorite artists.
This is a sketch I did of a character from Frezzato's graphic novel The 2nd Moon. I really love Frezzato's art. It's the perfect mix between manga and european-style comics. Aside from his great artistic ability, Frezzato also shows an immense imagination. For this fantasy story, he created amazing landscapes, cities, mechanical flying machines and great characters.

Another sketch in my Field Notes sketchbook.

Note: I will be updating this blog once a week - every Saturday. I find it difficult at this time to keep up with two updates a week.

Worm & dog

Worm & dog
Yes, it's a worm, not a snake.
This doodle was a test for the Pigma brush pen. What I can say is that it's okay when new but very soon the (fiber-tip) brush loses it's sharp edge and it's not very fun to draw with anymore. I'm not getting another one of these brush pens, though I do like the other Micron pens. I read some good recommendations about the Pentel brush pen so I'll try to get my hands on one of those.

Buddhist nun

Buddhist nun (detail)
This is one of my VERY few attempts with oil colors (mainly blue in this case). It was done back in 1998 and I don't think I used oil paints since. Back then, I was very interested in the monks way of life, especially the Zen buddhists.
I hope to get back to oils sometime as I remember it was a very satisfying experience.
Here's the full painting.

Leah Goldberg

Leah Goldberg
As promised, here is the first sketch I did on my new Field Notes sketchbook. It's a portrait sketch of Leah Goldberg I took from a picture in a newspaper. I must admit that the ink flowed smoothly across the page without bleeding. I used my trusty Rotring Art-Pen EF equipped with Pelikan brilliant black ink.

Field Notes

Field Notes
Last night I got my delivery of Field Notes. To my surprise there were some bonus items along with my order of notebooks: a pencil, a pen, a pin button, a sticker and a cool rubber band! I must admit, the notebooks are a bit smaller than I expected and the pages seem a bit thin. Now it's time to put these notebooks to the test and see how they behave as sketchbooks. I hope to post some results in the near future.
