Proview

Proview
Monday evening. I'm in the office. Waiting for an email. It quickly gets boring so I decide to do something useful and make this quick sketch of the monitor. Ah, good - the email just arrived. Time to go home! :)

Ananda

Ananda
Ananda is nice little place where me, my wife and my little girl visited last month. Half this place is a playground for kids and the other half is a café. While sitting at one corner, I sketched this odd-shaped kids-house in the play area.

Zombie teacher
Another portrait sketch from my high-school graduation book. This one turned out a little grotesque. This teacher wants to eat your brain...

Gaydamak

Arcadi Gaydamak
Recently, I came up with a new idea - sketching news from the newspaper. This is the first one. The headline translates to "A French court-house sentenced Gaydamak to six years in prison".

Rudolf

Rudolf Schwartzwasser
Maestro Rudolf Schwartzwasser (1922-2001). The world's greatest (and only) silent-piano* player. His performances are reported to be breath-taking and mesmerising, leaving the audience speechless. Another famous Schwartzwasser was his father, Zigmund, who was a virtuous stringless-guitar player and the founding father of the silent musical instruments movement in modern music. He was very much influenced by the super-extreme-minimalism movement that swept the Nicaraguan art scene at the time.

* Silent-piano - a special piano without all the strings and sound-producing parts usually found inside a normal piano.

Skullwing

Skullwing
This is the Skullwing. A common pet for the common arch-mage. The Skullwing is a harmless creature behaving very much like a little happy puppy (without all the pooping). The ingredients required to conjure this pet are:
1. A virgin giant bat.
2. The skull of a dog-loving man.
3. Good karma.
Now, go and make one for yourself!

Rabbit

Rabbit detail
I don't have a lot of pencil drawings. For some reason I always want to use a pencil but wind up using some sort of pen. I do hope to make more use of pencils. Nothing beats the soft, versatile lines of graphite on paper.
Here's the full drawing.

Noel Redding

Noel Redding
This sketch was inspired by a photo of Noel Redding. Here is a short info about him from Wikipedia:
David "Noel" Redding (25 December 1945 – 11 May 2003) was an English rock and roll guitarist best known as the bassist for The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Redding was the first person to join the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and the first to leave. His final concert with them was in June 1969. With the band, he participated in recording the 3 landmark albums "Are You Experienced", "Axis: Bold as Love", and "Electric Ladyland", as well as performing in some of Hendrix's most celebrated concerts. His playing style was distinguished by the use of a pick, a mid-range "trebly" sound, and in later years the use of fuzz and distortion effects through overdriven Sunn amps.

History teacher

History teacher
About a year after graduating from high-school I drew some of the portraits from my graduation book. This is a previous post describing what led me to do that. Like the title says, this is my history teacher.

Punk rocker

Punk rocker
Never been a big fan of the punk-rock genre. Except for The Ramones. They're a lot of fun to listen to. Anyway, this is an old sketch from 2003. I don't remember who this guy is. It was taken from some music magazine.

Sad orange
I made this sketch from a fashion catalog. The girl seems kinda sad... There's also a bit of Hebrew calligraphy there. I was practicing some letters.

Eden sleeping

Eden sleeping (detail)
This is part of a recent drawing I took of my (almost) 4 years old daughter. I drew it while she was asleep. Otherwise it's impossible to catch her because she's all over the place...
You can see the whole drawing here.

Rabbi Fisherman

Rabbi Fisherman
This is a quick pencil sketch of a Rabbi that I saw in a newspaper. I wasn't aiming for an accurate portrait, just a loose line drawing. Due to that, his hat came out funny looking. It reminds me of a fisherman hat...

Cottage cheese
Cottage cheese is quite popular at my house. We usually eat it straight out of the can.

Crumb

Graduation 1
About a year after graduating from my high-school, I took my graduation book and started to draw some of the students and teachers portraits. I got that idea after watching a documentary about Robert Crumb. There was a scene in that movie where Robert is hunching over his graduation book, sketching some students. I remember being inspired by this movie. Crumb was also the reason I started using a rapidograph, though it's been years since I last used one.

Faces I

Faces I
Three portraits from an old sketchbook from 1999. Back then, I had a habit of drawing people from newspapers. These days I hardly read any normal newspaper, only news sites on the web.
Top: Self portrait.
Bottom: Ariel Sharon.
Right: Martin Indyk.

The Snailodon

The Snailodon
This is the fearsome snailodon. One of the stupidest and spineless among the prehistoric species. They feed on meteorite dust. In large groups they have the power to create a strong magnetic field that sucks meteorites from space. It is speculated that a big gathering of about 200,000 snailodons created a massive magnetic field that pulled a gigantic meteorite straight on their screaming faces later causing the extinction of the dinosaurs. They will always be remembered as an evolutionary disgrace.

The quadropus

Quadropus
This is the quadropus. It is the less known relative of the octopus. Their smile is very misleading as they can be quite ferocious. They feed on lost treasures from drowned ships. They especially like gold coins. Their size is about that of a stray cat and if they are afraid they shoot out pink colored (strawberry flavored) ink.

Candle holder

Candle holder
Here's another oddity from our living-room. It's one of those fancy candle holders. This one is made of black metal (though I'm more into thrash-metal...) with spiral shapes and round stones of various colors. We have so many of them candle holders in our house and they always seem to find themselves closed inside some closet...

V for Vendetta

V for Vendetta
Recently, I finished reading this comic book. It's about a society very much like the one depicted in Orwell's 1984. Only here, there is a masked hero (wearing a Guy Fawkes costume), trying to free the people from the tyranny of their government. The story seems to always remain relevant as even today there are places in our world with frightening resemblance to the society in the book.

Happy birthday!

Happy birthday
This is the tea pot drawing that I posted in the "75 ways to draw more" Flickr group. The occasion was Michael Nobbs birthday. We had a virtual tea party that was secretly arranged by Clara. It was a lot of fun drawing this and watching the other group members contributions. What a lovely idea for a birthday party!

Altitude game

Altitude game
Altitude is a game of fast-paced aerial combat. The players are split into two teams and the objective is to destroy the opponent's base by use of bombs. The graphics are drawn in a beautiful cartoon style and the game is just plain fun to play. I'm already hooked. You can try the demo. Oh, and I give this game extra points for having a linux port.
